Succession

Ready to retire?

Your clients deserve someone who'll take care of them. I buy small bookkeeping and accounting practices, and I keep paying you for as long as your clients stay.

Year five and every year after
2%
of your clients' bookkeeping and CFO fees, for as long as they stay with Tenax.

What I'm looking for

At least half of your revenue from bookkeeping or client accounting services
About 100 clients or fewer
Clients who value the work
In the Phoenix Valley, or anywhere if your clients work with you virtually

How a sale works

The purchase is seller financed, paid over time. Then, starting in year two, you earn a commission on the bookkeeping and CFO fees your clients pay Tenax, for as long as they stay.

Year 1
Transition and repricing
Year 2
15%
Year 3
10%
Year 4
5%
Year 5 and every year after
For as long as the client stays
2%

Commissions are based on gross bookkeeping and CFO fees collected. Final terms are set in your purchase agreement.

Your clients

Your tax clients become Tenax clients like everyone else, and we take care of their business returns. Everyone moves onto Tenax systems, and every month's work is senior-reviewed before it reaches them. They get the same care you've given them, plus a team behind it.

Your role

Stay involved as much or as little as you want. Some sellers like to make introductions and stick around for a while; others are ready to hand over the keys. I'll travel to meet your clients during the transition if you'd like.

Every deal includes a non-compete and non-solicit.
Deals close May through January, so you can finish tax season first.

Why me

I sold my first firm, St. Vrain Financial, in 2021. I know what it's like to hand over clients you care about, and I know what they need from whoever comes next.

Questions

How is the price set?+

It's based on your practice's revenue and client mix. We work it out together and it's paid over time through seller financing.

Why are commissions paid after repricing?+

Many practices undercharge for bookkeeping. In year one, we bring fees in line with the work. Commissions start after that, so they're based on what your clients pay Tenax going forward.

What happens to my staff?+

We'll talk about your team early. Many bookkeepers make a great fit.

Do I have to stay on after the sale?+

No. It's your choice.

What if I'm not ready yet?+

No pressure. A first conversation is just that. You'll know what a sale could look like, and you can decide when the time is right.

Protect what you've built.
